SAP Fieldglass – Job Posting Qualifications: A Key to Smarter Hiring

Qualifications are an essential yet often overlooked feature in SAP Fieldglass, allowing companies to specify the skills required for a particular position directly within a job posting. Despite its importance, many organizations forgo this functionality, opting instead to include qualifications in job descriptions. While this approach provides flexibility and reduces maintenance needs, it can lead to slower, less reliable sourcing processes and increased susceptibility to human error.

By leveraging qualifications, organizations can measure skills in various ways, such as years of experience, point-based assessments, or a combination of both. This structured approach ensures greater transparency and allows suppliers to provide precise information about candidates’ capabilities. Without this feature, suppliers lack a dedicated space to input such data, forcing recruiters to manually analyze each resume. With qualifications configured, SAP Fieldglass automatically compares required skills with those provided by the supplier, streamlining the process and enhancing accuracy.

This automation makes the hiring process faster, more accurate, and cost-effective for managing external workers.

Automating Qualifications with Custom Lookups

For companies looking to simplify the inclusion of qualifications across job postings, SAP Fieldglass offers the Custom Lookup functionality. This feature allows you to define qualification criteria based on key job parameters, such as job codes or locations, automating the process and reducing the risk of errors. For example, instead of editing job templates individually, you can configure a Custom Lookup to automatically add relevant qualifications to job postings.

When Custom Lookup is configured, predefined qualifications in job templates are overridden, and only those matching the lookup criteria appear on the job posting. For instance, the example below shows a custom lookup that will make  all job postings under job code BA001, require knowledge on “SAP Fieldglass” as a mandatory qualification and “Visio” as a nice-to-have, this configuration can be automated with a Custom Lookup.

This not only ensures consistency but also simplifies system maintenance while significantly reducing errors during job creation.

Flexible Scales for Total Workforce Management

For organizations utilizing both SAP Fieldglass and SAP SuccessFactors as part of a Total Workforce Management strategy, synchronizing Fieldglass Qualifications with SuccessFactors Skills is a recommended practice. This integration enables seamless skill matching across internal and external talent pools.

SAP Fieldglass now supports Flexible Assessment Scales, allowing companies to define custom evaluation scales for qualifications. For instance, a French language skill might use a six-point scale, while a Japanese language skill could be evaluated on a five-point scale. Once enabled, existing qualifications are locked, and new ones are categorized as either “Certification” or “Flexible.” A new menu item, Flexible Assessment Scale, is also added under the Worker tile for easy configuration.

While this feature offers comprehensive integration with SuccessFactors, companies must carefully assess its potential impact on existing processes. For systems already in operation, implementing Flexible Scales may introduce significant changes that require thoughtful planning and execution.

Conclusion

By effectively utilizing qualifications in SAP Fieldglass, organizations can streamline their hiring processes, reduce manual effort, and ensure better alignment between job requirements and candidate capabilities. Automation through Custom Lookups and integration with SAP SuccessFactors further enhances system efficiency, supporting a unified approach to workforce management. However, these advanced configurations demand careful consideration to avoid disrupting existing workflows.
